IN BRIEF
Duquesne University is a private, Catholic university, founded by members of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost, or Spiritans, and sustained through a partnership of laity and religious. Duquesne serves God by serving students - through commitment to excellence in liberal and professional education, through profound concern for moral and spiritual values, through the maintenance of an ecumenical atmosphere open to diversity, and through service to the Church, the community, the nation and the world.

Residence Life
The Office of Residence Life strives to provide a welcoming and nurturing presence for each resident student and all members of the community who are served by their efforts. The philosophy of this work is to continuously maintain, improve and maximize the necessary conditions for the complete spiritual, intellectual and moral enhancement of each individual who shares in this community.

Most importantly, this outreach remains rooted in the and respectfully honors the unique talents, gifts, abilities and backgrounds that each person brings to this wonderful enterprise. Learning takes place beyond the traditional setting of the academic hall. With this understanding in mind, the Office of Residence Life dedicates itself to the creation of a healthy, safe and secure atmosphere where intellectual, personal, and professional growth and development are fostered. A full-time, professional Resident Director lives in each of the five living/learning centers and he/she maintains regular office hours.

freshmen students are required to reside on campus unless they are living at home with their parents or a family member. This allows the incoming student the opportunity to participate most fully in the university community and places many important campus resources at the disposal of every resident, which include: the library, dinning facilities, athletic facilities, health center, student union, administrative offices and nearby parking facilities.

Room selection for upper-class students takes place in the spring Semester for the following academic year. Group housing and special interest wings are available in Duquesne Towers for groups of a dozen or more students who desire to live together. All room and board rates are determined on an annual basis. Please contact the Office of Residence Life for the most current information available: 412-396-6655.

ACTIVITIES
Duquesne University offers both commuter and resident students a wide variety of co-curricular activities. These include more than 130 student organizations, an exciting program of leisure time events, community service, and leadership development activities. Student organizations provide opportunities to participate in activities including media, governing, sports-related, cultural and spiritual activities. Some of the major student organizations are Student Government, Commuter Council, Residence Halls Association, Black Student Union, International Students Organization, Duquesne Program Council, and the Duquesne University Volunteers (DUV).

Leisure time events range from dances and concerts to lectures and film series. All of these are offered right on campus. A special program of late night events occurs in the NiteSpot on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On these nights, the NiteSpot Late Night Programs feature entertainment and free refreshments until 2:00 a.m.

The Building Unity and Integrity in Leadership at Duquesne (B.U.I.L.D.) Program provides ongoing leadership development for interested students. These programs focus on assisting students to become better ethical leaders.

The Duquesne University Volunteers (DUV) is the umbrella movement which covers all community service and volunteer efforts in which Duquesne students are involved. Last year more than 5000 Duquesne students volunteered their time to do community service at more than 800 social service agencies in the greater Pittsburgh area.
